Francois Verster’s multi-award winning film THE
DREAM OF SHAHRAZAD explores recent political events in Turkey and Egypt through
the lens of the age-old story collection THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS.
South African documentary filmmaker Francois
Verster’s films have won various awards, including a 2006 Emmy, and include
WHEN THE WAR IS OVER, THE MOTHERS’ HOUSE, A LION’S TRAIL, SEA POINT DAYS and
THE DREAM OF SHAHRAZAD. He has taught documentaries studies courses at
Columbia University, New York University, University of Cape Town, and University
of the Witwatersrand, and has published in various journals and
anthologies. He currently teaches a postgraduate course at the University
of the Western Cape. He has appeared on festival juries and has had multiple
festival retrospectives on his work, most recently at the Jeu de Paume in
Paris, France.
