The Right to Research

In the current system of scholarly publication, producers of knowledge give it away for free to publishers who, in turn, monopolize that knowledge in order to convert it to a commodity ("intellectual property") and sell access to it. Students can be the biggest losers in this system. If producers of knowledge (mostly funded by our tax dollars) are giving it away for free, why shouldn't we all be able to freely access it? One student initiative to end the commodification of knowledge is The Right to Research Coalition. Please check out their website and consider joining the movement for open access:
